—SEEKING FIRST THE KINGDOM OF GOD
by Cody Westbrook
What is the most challenging passage of Scripture? Some
would say that it is Matthew 5:44 where Jesus said that
we are to love our enemies. Perhaps others would cite
Matthew 5:48 where we read, “Be ye therefore perfect,
even as your Father which is in Heaven is perfect.” But in reality, the
most difficult passage of Scripture for many is the command to “seek
first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness” (Matthew 6:33). This
command is so difficult for us because it is all encompassing, and because
we fail to understand and apply it on a
practical level. How can I seek first the
kingdom of God?...

THE BIBLE NOT COMPLETE?
There are some today who teach that the Bible is not complete. The Book of Mormon, II Nephi 12:53-64, states, "Thou fool that shall say, 'A Bible, a Bible, we have got a Bible, and we need no other Bible'...ye need not suppose that it contains all my words; neither need ye suppose that I have not caused more to be written." The idea is that the Bible is in error and that man needs continuing revelation from God. Obviously, this is an absolute denial of the Word of God.
The Bible Teaches That...
1. The Bible is inspired and complete. "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work" (2 Tim. 3:16-17). "For prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit" (2 Pet. 1:21).
2. To attempt to add to God's Word is to stand accursed. "But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed" (Gal. 1:8-9). "For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book" (Rev. 22:18-19).
