We would like to enlist the assistance of Christians all over the world who might be able to help us get our programs into the hands of directors of television stations, cable networks, and radio stations. We need people in various locales to "be our eyes, ears, mouths, and legs," so to speak. It's a simple process. Usually, in fact, all it takes is a phone call or two—and a quick trip to the local station to drop off some samples of our programs (which we will be happy to ship to you; or, we can save you a trip and ship them directly to the station).
In the past, some of TGOC's supporters took it upon themselves to call their local stations to see if free time was available for religious programming. Several discovered that it was—and that the station actually needed good-quality programs to air. We were pleasantly surprised by such success stories. The efforts of these individuals encouraged us to ask for additional assistance via our newsletter. As a result, numerous other people pitched in to help as well. Because of their efforts, GOSPEL OF CHRIST programs are now airing on more stations in more areas—completely free of charge. [Some people contacted us to let us know that although local stations did not have spots available at that time, they would try again later—which we certainly appreciated.]
We really could use your help on this project. Would you please contact your local television stations, cable network, or radio stations to ask if complimentary time is available for programs like the ones we make available (which are in 28.5 minute formats)? If free air time is available, all you have to do is provide "the foot in the door" for us. We'll do the rest. LESSONS SEVEN AND EIGHT
IN ITS NEWLY REVISED
TRUTH SERIES
We are pleased to announce in this newsletter the availability of the seventh and eighth lessons in our newly revised Truth Series by Ben Bailey. In his lesson on "The Truth About Marriage," Ben starts by reminding his viewers of a fact that most people today already know: approximately one in every two marriages in America ends in divorce. That is the problem. The Bible, however, has the solution. As Ben begins his discussion of that solution, he asks questions like, "Why did God institute marriage?," and "Why did God create the home?" Marriage and the home, of course, have numerous positive benefits—both for individuals and for society at large. Marriage and the home provide for such things as companionship, propagation of the human race, the prevention of immorality, individual spiritual development, help in getting to Heaven, and so on.
But, as Ben goes on to note, "If we want our marriages to be what God wants them to be, and if we want our marriages to be successful, we must let God and the Bible be our standard. For marriage to be a success, the standard of living in the home must be God’s Word. Until we decide that each marriage is going to be guided by 'the marriage manual'—God’s Word—then marriage never will be the success that God intends for it to be." Oh, how true! As the psalmist said, "Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it" (Psalm 127:1). Throughout his lesson, Ben points out that those involved in a marriage must be committed—first to God, and second, to each other.
As Ben begins his lesson on "The Truth About Heaven and Hell," he asks, "Where are you going to be for eternity?" He then points out that this life is our one-and-only chance to "get it right." As the writer of the Book of Hebrews said, "And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment" (Hebrews 9:27). Much of Ben's lesson is devoted to the account in Luke 16:19ff. of the unnamed rich man and the beggar, Lazarus. The rich man "fared sumptuously" in this life, but suffered in the next. Lazarus' fate, however, was exactly the opposite.
Throughout his lesson, Ben points out a number of reasons why (to use his own words) "no one should ever want to go to Hell." He also points out a number of reasons why everyone should want to go to Heaven. Ben ends his lesson by saying, "We need to understand that this life is brief, and that Jesus came to give Himself as a sacrifice for all men so they could be saved. There is only one way to escape Hell and get to Heaven, and that is through Jesus Christ. As Jesus Himself said in John 14:6, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.' "
