TGOC ANNOUNCES
LESSONS ONE AND TWO
IN ITS NEWLY REVISED
TRUTH SERIES

We are pleased to be able to announce in this newsletter the availability of the first two lessons in our newly revised Truth Series, which Ben Bailey just recently completed filming.

In lesson one ("The Truth About the Truth"), Ben begins by echoing Pilate's question in John 18:38—"What is truth?" He then proceeds to answer that question by pointing out that, from the Scriptures, we can learn that there are four things we can know are true. First, God Himself is truth. In 1 Thessalonians 1:9, the people turned from idols to serve "the living and true God." Second, Jesus Christ is truth. In Ephesians 4:21 we are told that the truth is "in Christ." In John 14:6 Jesus Himself said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." Third, the Holy Spirit is truth. In 1 John 5:6 we are told that "the Spirit is truth." Thus, everything the Spirit gives us would naturally be true, which leads to the fourth item that we can know is true—the Word of God. Jesus said in John 17:17, "Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth." God, Christ, and the Holy Spirit (as the Godhead) represent truth. And because they are true, then the Word that emanates from the Godhead (inspired by the Holy Spirit) is likewise true.

Truth is important because it gives us the fundamental answers to life's greatest questions, such as: (1) Whence have we come?; (2) Why are we here?; and (3) Where are we going? Truth also is important because: (a) it sets us free from sin (Jn. 8:32); (b) it refutes error; (c) it is relevant to the success and continuance of human society; and (d) it contains the solutions to all of the problems (psychological, social, emotional, or spiritual) that people encounter in their lives.

In lesson two ("The Truth About Abortion"), Ben begins by quoting Psalm 127:3 ("Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord; the fruit of the womb is a reward") to remind us of how precious children are in God's sight. He then discusses three commonly used "defenses" presented to justify abortion: (1) the idea that the unborn child is "not alive"; (2) the suggestion that in many cases (such as unwed mothers) the woman is not in an emotional or financial state to have a child; and (3) the belief that "it is the mother’s right to choose" whether or not to give birth to the child.

Ben then moves into a discussion of what the Scriptures have to say on the topic of abortion, during which he presents numerous biblical passages that either speak directly to the death of an unborn child (e.g. Ex. 21:22-25), that address how God views taking the life of the innocent (e.g., Prov. 6:17 and Amos 1:13), or that explain how God views life in the womb (e.g., Mt. 1:18-25; Lk. 1:13-15; Lk. 1:41,44; Jer. 1:5; et al.). Then, as he closes his lesson, Ben offers suggestions as to how people today can help put a stop to abortion.

Both of these new lessons are now available on our Website, where you will find them in video, audio, and written transcript formats. We invite you to examine them for yourself, and to share them with others.

FOURTH ROUND OF
MOTIVATIONAL BIBLE QUIZZES
NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE

In three past issues of this newsletter, we announced the addition to our Website of a total of twelve different Bible quizzes in our Motivational Series. In this newsletter, we are pleased to announce the final segment of quizzes in that series (lessons 13-16). These new quizzes can be found on our Website at www.thegospelofchrist.com/quiz. We invite you to try your hand at them. We believe you will be pleasantly surprised at what you find.

FOR OUR FRIENDS
WHO NEED MATERIALS
IN SPANISH, WE RECOMMEND...

As those of you who visit our Website from time to time are aware, we make available a few materials in Spanish. But because our selection is somewhat limited, we frequently receive inquiries about where additional materials in Spanish can be found.

In this edition of our newsletter, we would like to recommend a Website to you that we believe will be of significant help to those people who are searching for sound, reliable, biblical materials in Spanish. Willie Alvarenga is a Spanish evangelist who has helped us prepare some materials for our site. But he also maintains his own site (www.willie75.wordpress.com — Un Sitio Dedicado Para el Estudiante Diligente de la Biblia) that contains many more materials in Spanish than we are able to make available.

We would like to recommend Willie's site to you, in the hope that it will help you, or someone you know, who needs access to good, trustworthy materials on the Bible in Spanish.
