MORE TOPICAL SERIES
BIBLE QUIZZES
NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE

In our July 10, 2007 e-newsletter, we announced the addition to our Website of the first four (out of a total of eight) Topical Series Bible quizzes to our Website. In this newsletter, we are pleased to announce the last four quizzes in that series. Included in this offering are quizzes on: (1) The Nature of God; (2) The "I Am" Statements of Christ; (3) The Distinctive Nature of the Church [Part 1]; and (4) The Distinctive Nature of the Church [Part 2]. We invite you to test your Bible knowledge on these subjects by taking the quizzes, which can be found on our Website at www.thegospelofchrist.com/quiz.

TGOC ADDS A
NEW SPEAKER TO ITS ROSTER

In our last e-newsletter, we included a "teaser" which stated that we would soon be announcing a new speaker. We mentioned that he would not be joining Ben Bailey in his presentations, and that he would not be replacing Ben as a speaker for TGOC. Instead, the new speaker would be in addition to Ben.

That new speaker is none other than our own James Gravelle, TGOC's Webmaster. James, who is a graduate of The Southwest School of Bible Studies in Austin, Texas and has twenty years of previous experience as a preacher, is currently serving with the McLish Avenue Church of Christ (whose elders oversee the work of TGOC). We believe you will find James' presentations to be as appealing as they are intellectually challenging. His first series of programs,

New Speaker Comes To TGOC

"Fundamentals of the Faith," is scheduled to begin airing on August 12, and will appear on TGOC's Website beginning August 21. We invite you to watch/listen to the programs on television/radio if they are available in your area, or to view them (or listen to them) on our Website. We will be announcing the availability of the lessons in the new "Fundamentals of the Faith" series in upcoming editions of our e-newsletter. Be sure to watch for them.

TGOC ANNOUNCES
THE LAST TWO LESSONS IN ITS
NEW "MORE ABOUT JESUS" SERIES

Also in our July 10 e-newsletter, we announced the availability of two more lessons ("Jesus, Friend of Sinners" and "The Mind of Christ") in our new "More About Jesus" Series of videos. In this newsletter, we are announcing lessons seven and eight in that series ("The Narrow-minded Jesus" and "Jesus in the Book of Revelation").

In his lesson on "The Narrow-minded Jesus," Ben Bailey begins by observing that in the world in which we live, many people see Jesus as an open-minded Savior Who is willing to accept any number of different views regarding Christianity, thereby allowing people to believe pretty much whatever they want. But Ben then asks, "Is that the way the Bible describes Jesus? Or, was Jesus narrow minded in many ways? By narrow minded, we mean, 'Did Jesus state that there was one, and only one, path by which a person could do something? Or, were there a multiplicity of different views that people could hold and be acceptable to Jesus?' " Ben then examines the various ways in which Jesus was, in fact, narrow minded. Included in his comments are discussions about the following:

  • Jesus was narrow minded concerning righteous living.
  • Jesus was narrow minded about being converted to the Cause of Christ.
  • Jesus was narrow minded regarding the essentiality of repentance.
  • Jesus was narrow minded when it came the necessity of baptism.
  • Jesus was narrow minded on the topic of the inspiration of the Scriptures.
  • Jesus was narrow minded about acceptable worship.
  • Jesus was narrow minded concerning the object of our worship.
  • Jesus was narrow minded regarding the time of His Second Coming.
  • Jesus was narrow minded in His discussions about the only scriptural reason for divorce.
  • Jesus was narrow minded concerning the fact that He is the one and only way to the Father.
Ben ends his lesson by appealing to people to see Jesus as being narrow minded on the important teachings and principles mentioned above so that they can obey Him and eventually go to Heaven.

In his lesson on "Jesus in the Book of Revelation," Ben begins by reminding the viewer of the overall theme of the entire Book of Revelation: Jesus' church will be victorious! As Ben notes, "Jesus, as seen in Revelation, ought to encourage each one of us. We especially notice His power, His kingship, His majesty, and His control over world events. This ought to encourage us by helping us to know that God still rules in the kingdoms of men." Ben then moves through the Book of Revelation, showing the following:

  • In chapter 1, we see Jesus as the Son of Man, which emphasizes His human nature. He had equality with God, yet at the same time He knows what we feel like because He has endured our temptations and our trials.
  • In chapters 2-3, we find Jesus addressing the seven churches of Asia as He addressed their good and bad points.
  • In chapter 5, we see a beautiful picture painted of the Lamb Who was slain before the foundation of the world.
  • In chapter 6, we see Jesus as the Avenger of His saints.
  • In chapter 7, we find Jesus as the loving Shepherd Who leads His sheep to everlasting life.
  • In chapters 11 and 17, we see Jesus as the King of kings and Lord of lords.
  • In chapter 12, we see Jesus as the only way by which we can defeat Satan.
  • In chapter 19, we are impressed with the victorious scene of Jesus as the Savior of mankind.
  • In chapter 20, we see Jesus as the Great Judge of all humanity.
Ben then ends his discussion by summarizing as follows: "The Book of Revelation presents Jesus as One Who has great majesty and power. It shows that He is still the Head of the church. He is the Lamb Who was slain, and because of His great sacrifice He is able to avenge the saints of God. He is the King of kings and Lord of lords, and if we remain faithful to Him, He will one day lead us to a home in Heaven."

Both of these lessons are now available on our Website, where you will find them in video, audio, and written transcript formats. We invite you to take advantage of them and to share them with others.
