AN UPDATE ON TGOC'S
SEARCH FOR A NEW DIRECTOR

As you may remember from issues of past printed or electronic newsletters, over the past several months THE GOSPEL OF CHRIST has been conducting a search for a new director. We are looking for "just the right man" who will not only ensure the future of this work, but who also will help us take it to the next level of productivity. We have received résumés from a number of qualified individuals, and have interviewed some of those. This short note is simply to give you an update on our progress in this regard, and to let you know that we are still in the midst of the selection process. If you know of someone whom you think might be a "good fit" for this position, please feel free to have them contact us at elders@thegospelofchrist.com. We would be happy to consider any additional applicants.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING...

  • New Johnsonville, TN;   I have been a Christian for 48 years.  The church needs more teaching now than ever.  I will pray for your program.  I think it is the best I have seen.

  • Middle East; Glad to get your email. I am an Orthodox Christian based out of the Middle East and Bulgaria (I am half Lebanese half Bulgarian). I have always found the work of evangelical churches and their preaching inspiring.

  • Roswell, New Mexico;  We received the CDs and DVD you sent us.  We are a small group of the Spanish church of Christ.  We are enjoying them very much.  Thank you so much for taking the time to send them.

  • Florida;  Just came across your website! I am very impressed with your website.  I want to encourage you all!  May God keep blessing your work.  This is such a powerful outreach!. Once again OUTSTANDING JOB!

  • Cuernavaca, Mexico; Congratulations for all your tremendous efforts in teaching the truth we need, the Bible. You are really doing a relevant work for the Lord's Church by offering your biblical materials to people around the world. I am a evangelist here in Mexico and it's very hard to find valuable and Bible-based material on the Internet. We are just full of denominational material on the Internet, or even of supposedly "CoC" material that is practically teaching a modified gospel, so under this situation your work is just a blessing and certainly is helping to save more people all over the world. Personally I´ve been using your material to take more souls to the Lord´s church here in Cuernavaca, Mexico.

FIRST FOUR LESSONS
FROM TGOC'S TOPICAL SERIES
NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE

THE GOSPEL OF CHRIST is pleased to announce the addition of another series of Bible quizzes to our Website. In the past several newsletters, we have announced the availability of quizzes to accompany several of our video programs (such as the Evangelism Series, Soul-Saving Series, Worship Series, etc.). In this newsletter, we want to announce the first four quizzes (out of a total of eight) in our Topical Series. Included in this offering are quizzes on: (1) The Judgment; (2) The Plan of Salvation; (3) What Is Sin?; and (4) The Real Jesus. The last four quizzes in the Topical Series will be posted in the coming weeks. We invite you to test your Bible knowledge on these subjects by taking the quizzes, which can be found on our Website at www.thegospelofchrist.com/quiz.

ANNOUNCING THE NEXT
TWO LESSONS IN THE
"MORE ABOUT JESUS" SERIES

In our last e-newsletter, we announced the availability of the first two lessons ("Jesus in the Old Testament" and "What Was Jesus Like?") in our new "More About Jesus" Series of videos. In this newsletter, we are announcing the next two lessons in that series ("Jesus' Statements on the Cross" and "The Convictions of Christ").

In his lesson on "Jesus' Statements on the Cross," Ben Bailey begins by asking such questions as, "If you had just seven dying statements to make, what would they be? If you wanted to leave seven lasting impressions on someone, what would you say? What would you say to your friends, family, or all those who might hear your words in years to come? What would you say to leave a lasting impression on their minds?" Ben then explains to the viewer that in this lesson he is going to be examining the last seven statements that Jesus Christ uttered prior to His death. Here are those seven statements:

"Father, forgive them for they do not know what they do." [spoken to His Father in Heaven]

"Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise." [spoken to one of the two thieves crucified alongside Him]

"Woman, behold your son." [spoken to His mother, Mary, standing beneath the cross]

"Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?" ("My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?") [spoken to His Father in Heaven]

"I thirst." [spoken to those who were crucifying Him]

"It is finished." [spoken shortly before He died]

"Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit." [spoken immediately before he took His last breath]

Ben uses these seven statements to discuss both the deity and the humanity of Christ. But he does not stop there. He also uses these seven simple statements of the Savior to make important practical applications to our daily lives. In fact, as Ben brings his comments to a close he says, "Even if right up to the point of His dying—right up to His last breath—Jesus submitted Himself to the will of God, then we today need to do the same thing." Ben then asks: "Are you submissive to the will of God like Jesus was?"

In his lesson, "The Convictions of Christ," Ben begins by pointing out that "Christ was a Man of great conviction. He was not a Man Who was wishy-washy in His beliefs. Nor did He base what He taught on opinion or a majority poll. Rather, Jesus was a Man of great conviction in everything that He said and stood for. In fact, it is the convictions that Jesus possessed that eventually led Him to the cross."

Ben then begins an in-depth examination of a number of Christ's convictions in order to help us see how they apply to our lives today, and how they can help each one of us be a stronger Christian. Among the convictions of Christ that Ben discusses are the following:

  • Jesus was convicted about how to be great in the kingdom.
  • Jesus was convicted regarding the fact that if we want to be great, we must be the servant of all.
  • Jesus was convicted regarding our need to confess Him via our lifestyle.
  • Jesus was convicted that, as His followers, we need to be a part of the family of God.
  • Jesus was convicted regarding how we should save our lives.
  • Jesus was convicted regarding how to never thirst or hunger again.
  • Jesus was convicted regarding the fact that we could live in such a way that we would never really die.
  • Jesus was convicted about our need to hear God's Word.
  • Jesus was convicted about God's protective care for His children.
  • Jesus was convicted about the power of prayer.
  • Jesus was convicted about the nature of eternal life.
Ben closes his lesson by saying, "Jesus was convicted enough to go to the cross and give His life so that we could have the hope of going to Heaven. So, let me ask if you are convinced of God's will and of His desire for you to go to Heaven." Something to think about, isn't it?

Both of these lessons are now available on our Website, where you will find them in video, audio, and written transcript formats. We invite you to take advantage of them and to share them with others.
