TWO NEW LESSONS IN ITS
MOTIVATIONAL SERIES
In our previous e-newsletter, we announced the availability of two additional lessons ("Relighting Our Passion for Jesus" and "The Power of Persistent Prayer") in our new Motivational Series of videos. Today, we are announcing the next two videos in that series:
"Comfort from Above"
"The Greatest Things in Life"
In his lesson on "Comfort from Above," Ben Bailey begins by making the following observations: "We live in a world that sometimes makes us very uncomfortable. Things occur that cause us great discomfort, and as a result we desire to go home and be with God." Ben then lists a number of things (sin, death, immorality, etc.) that cause us discomfort. He then asks, "How do we find comfort in times of trouble? What do we do to receive comfort from God? And how can we know that in times of difficulty we can find peace in such situations?"
The answer, of course, as Ben goes on to point out, is that we as Christians must realize that there is a God of comfort Who will help us in times of trouble. The apostle Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God." Ben discusses a number of things from the Scriptures that can help us achieve the level of comfort that God wants us, as His people, to have in our daily lives. God, for example, is a God of love. John 3:16 reminds us that "God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." That fact should offer us great comfort, to be sure. Another thing that should provide comfort for us is the fact that God is a just and righteous God Who keeps His promises. The apostle John wrote in 1 John 2:25, "This is the promise that He has promised us-eternal life." How nice it is to know that God is a God Who "cannot lie" (Titus 1:2), and Who therefore will do for us what He has pledged to do.
Another attribute of God that should give us comfort is that He has promised to protect us and care for us in this life. One of the blessing that we have as Christians is God's providential care. The psalmist said in Psalm 23:4, "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me." God wants us to take comfort in the fact that He does care for us, and that He has promised to protect us and take care of us. God's Word is a great comfort to us, too, of course. The psalmist wrote in Psalm 119:50, "This is my comfort in my affliction, that Your word has given me life." After all, it is God's Word that tells us about Heaven (e.g., John 14:1-6). Throughout his lesson, Ben offers up numerous things that bring great comfort to God's people. By the time you finish viewing or listening to this program, you undoubtedly will feel different about your life and whatever trials or tribulations you may be experiencing.
In the next lesson, "The Greatest Things in Life," Ben begins by asking, "What are the greatest things in life that the child of God possesses? What are some of the greatest qualities, greatest blessings, and greatest privileges that we have in the here and now?" Ben then presents a list of some of "the greatest things" in life, among which are the following:
- The greatest privilege in this life is to be called "sons of God" (Gal. 3:26-27).
- The greatest joy in life is the joy of salvation (2 Tim. 1:10-11).
- The greatest fellowship in this life is with Christ and Christians (Acts 2:42).
- The greatest work or vocation in this life is to work for God and to serve Him (1 Cor.15:58).
- The greatest knowledge in this life is to know God and His Son Jesus Christ (Jn. 17:3).
- The greatest question in this life is, "What must I do to be saved?" (Acts 16:30).
- The greatest loss in this life is the loss of one's soul (Mark 8:36-37).
The average person who listens to this lesson would undoubtedly come away desiring these "greatest things in life." To Ben's credit, during the lesson he repeatedly offers up reminders that "all spiritual blessings" (Eph. 1:3) are available only "in Christ." He then ends by explaining what a person must do to get "in Christ," so that anyone who wants to take advantage of "the greatest things in life" will know exactly how to do that.
